Bloodlust
Bloodlust is a series of life-sized, self-portrait photographs. I created these suffocating portraits during the onset of panic attacks that altered my ability to live freely for nearly a decade. I reference the bodies from Pompeii and Herculaneum entombed in ash by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 CE. The color red has connotations ranging from pain to desire, commitment to rage, love to hatred, and I use it to imbue these portraits with daydreams, longing, and fear.
